Peace is possible only , If countries like Iran supplying arms to attack Israel, halts their consignment. Iran incites poor Palestinians to venture and suffer.

Everyone should know by now he is in a no win situation. It is not like the western media will suddenly become unbiased towards Morsi. So he will still be called the "islamist " president. He was elected by a clear majority just like Obama. Is Obama the "black" president.

" Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal told reporters in Cairo on Monday that Hamas would only agree to a cease-fire if its demands are met. "We don't accept Israeli conditions because it is the aggressor," he said. "We want a cease-fire along with meeting our demands."
That parallels their charter which says that they will not negotiate peace "until the last drop of Jewish blood is spilled in the desert".
Spin it any way you want, the bottom line is that Hamas does not want Israel to exist.

How can you expect to negotiate with your adversary if he does not recognize your right to exist! I do believe that Israel has to compromise but only if Hamas changes its position on the right for Israel to exist.

It should be obvious by now that military israeli force will not deter Hamas- they will come back stronger, negative karma will build until the israeli state is diminished.
by crederae11/21/2012 9:19:06 AM
'wallyj' suggests some dangerously simplistic nonsense: "Spin it any way you want, the bottom line is that Hamas does not want Israel to exist."
by Walrus Jr11/21/2012 9:20:40 AM
Speaking of rights to exist how about those of democratically elected governments, such as Hamas.

too little discussion,if any re.the Palestinian situation as well as illegal Israeli settlement expansion, with impunity. This is the heart of the problem as well as the isolation of Gaza and the unlikeliness that it will ever be a viable community

In Cast Lead Palastinian: Israeli dead were about 110:1 at the moment 30:1... many women and children... sounds like the Germans in 39-45...

Israel was promised 300,00 square miles, have only occuoied 10,000. Area includes parts of Egypt, Iran, etc. No wonder there will be a continuing war!

Obama has greater worries than Gaza right now. Benghazigate is bigger and much worse than Watergate was. It could cost him his job and so he hides in Asia. He has represented himself as the great supporter of Islam and Israel which is like saying I'm for Churchill and Hitler. Besides there will never be a two state solution as pointed out by many of the comments here. Back to the think-tank, Mr. Duss

As long as Israel occupies Palestine and puts this straightjacket on the citizens, you will never ever get peace but perhaps this is waht Israel and USA want? There are illegal settlements still going up like crazy. Where is the level playin g field?

In the face of missiles launched by the hundred with the intent to inflict maximum civilian casualties in Israel, Israel is exercising immense restraint in trying to protect it's population. The Palestinian leadership exploits this restraint which, if the tables were turned, they would never, ever exercise. Israel's "weakness" is it's compassion, painstakingly minimizing collateral damage against a foe whose sole purpose is the extermination of Israel and Jews everywhere. Wake up people, Israel is the victim here and always has been in this conflict, and it is a nation capable of living up to peace agreements.

Normal article headline from the NYT "Bus Bombing in Tel Aviv Wounds 11". Compare to the G&M one.

The so caalled innocents in Gaza elected an organisation that was committed to targetting civillians in Isreal with all weapons it could obtain. The people of gaza must therefore accept responsibility for the actions of their elected representatives. Gaza Palestinians now reap the harvest they have sown. Why are they complaining?

chris Boo is wrong. The germans lost a lot more than the allies in 39-45,except for USSR.

Netanyahu wants a majority in January and a war with Iran. Attacks against Gaza and the Hamas leadership could be electorally profitable as he demonstrates 'toughness' against those who are hostile toward Israel after being sealed in an outdoor prison camp for years by a nation that ignores the UN, occupies and builds settlements upon Palestinian land. The claim that the rockets Gazans fire at Israel in retaliation come from Iran could be used to push public opinion in favour of Bibi's Iran war that leading IDF and security figures do not feel is justified at present. This would likely be another middle east military adventure based on dubious claims of weapons of mass destruction that would involve the US and Canada.
