I'd like to welcome TTC CEO Andy Byford to thestar.com. He's got the TTC's Brad Ross with him to help keep the conversation flowing while he types. We'll try and get a good variety of questions at you Andy but I expect a fair bit of interest will be about transit expansion. So let's get to it.

I think the worst thing we could do would be to reopen the debate on every agreed project. Work is well advanced on Crosstown and I want to see it get built. I continue to lobby hard for a relief line.

Here's one that talks about your own team's role in understanding TTC service Andy.

Just while we're waiting on Andy, for folks who don't know, there's an LRT under construction on Eglinton. The centre portion of it -- about 10 km. will act like a subway running under the road, which is considered too narrow in the middle to accomodate a separated LRT right of way. The difference between LRT and subway is the number of people the two technologies can carry.

Yes, absolutely, and to be fair, many do. I myself do not own a car (I never have) and I take the TTC every day. Brad Ross and Chris Upfold are also regular TTC users. Expect to see TTC managers using the system more and more, name badges on, so that you can ask us about the service

Ok, back to the Scarborough question Andy.

Two alignments were considered (in the most recent debate) - the provincial route via the SRT alignment and the TTC route under McCowan. Our analysis shows clear operational and engineering advantages and it gets you to Sheppard

It's interesting to me how the two main TTC conversations -- transit expansion and customer service -- are finally converging and emerging as the same issue in discussion of the downtown relief line.

What I?the TTC have said is that both options (LRT or subway) will do the job. I signed the Master Agreement to enable the LRT to be built. But when Council reopened the debate, I further said that for the longer term, a subway has advantages

Just while we're waiting on the next answer here's a little compliment.

Thanks for the feedback about Pape - I also think it looks great. The elevator, landscaping and bike racks will be finished next month and the final piece, the second exit, in December. On GO, I am working with MX on just that suggestion

Ok, next question coming up.

I'm pleased that you have noticed that, thanks. I have reorganised the TTC to speed up work on reliability of the service AND to train, coach and encourage staff to be consistently positive. Front line service isn't easy (I've been there) and most staff are great. We also need to change management style to actively support employees and we are doing that
